The musical traditions preserved by the Hungarian populations settled in Transylvania remind the documents collected a century ago by Béla Bartók. The dances and the laments performed here by two groups of villagers give a good example of their rhythmic diversity and their archaic harmonies. The first group, originating from Eastern Carpathians, is made of a violin and a ütögardon (a rhythmic instrument based on a cello-like body). The second one, originating from the Great Plain, is a Gypsy string band accompanied by a female villager singer.

The Music of Aborigines On Taiwan, The Songs of the Yami Tribe Island Vol. 3   Marta's Song   Unknown
Notes:

The Yami is the only aboriginal tribe who has not yet been sinicized due to her isolated location on Orchid lsland (Lanyu). Their music characterizes its primitive form of singing-small range of scale, no leap of wide intervals or complicated changes in rhythm, and so forth. Through the styles of the monophonic solo singing, call and response, as well as antiphony and heterophony, the Yami people faithfully convey their feelings of love, joy, and hope without excessive acrobatic vocal expression.

Among all the aboriginal tribes of Taiwan, the Amis have the largest population and are known for their matrilineal kinship system and age-grade societies. Their musical forms are abundant and varied, possessing a wide vocal range, distinctive rhythms, and featuring one of the most sophisticated aboriginal musical styles, especially as heard in their free counterpoint (polyphonic singing).

The Music of Aborigines On Taiwan,
The Songs of the Puyuma Tribe, Vol. IV
Coral Lounge    5. Short Song for the New Year Rite

Catalog Info:
TCD-1504 Wind Records

The Puyuma tribe`s most common style of singing is `call and response.` This is the alternation of solo and chorus in two-part polyphony based on ostinato. The scale used is similar to that of Amis, their neighboring tribe, which is the pentatonic scale on the keys of A and C. Through the ritual songs, hunter`s songs, laboring songs and children rhymes collected in this album, the traditional life style and social values are clearly shown.
