After the success of Deep Forest's deubt album, Eric Mouquet co-produced Dao Dezi (meaning "Let's Go") with Guilain Joncheray (exectutive producer of Deep Forest). The album features traditional folks songs in the Celtic language of Northern France called Breton. The music is mixed with techno beats like Deep Forest, but none of the main vocals are sampled, instead Eric features a slew of traditional Breton artists like Denez Prigent, Arnaud Maisonneuve and Manu Lann Huel. Michel Sanchez also takes a small part in the album, playing synthesizers on several of the songs.
During the 90's Eric spent much of his time working on Deep Forest. 99' was the beginning of an explosion of his own productions. Aral was released under Catherine Lara's name, but was all co-composed, arranged and produced by Eric. Aral, and many of the song titles refer to the drying up sea in Uzbekistan and Kazakstan, Aral is also Lara spelled backwards.

The music is predominantly instrumental with global influences primarily from the region of the Aral sea. Each trach features Catherine on violin layered with textures and arrangements just like Deep Forest, and even features Deeplara from Deep Forest. Although the album was quite stunning and received excellent reviews, it sold poorly and was considered a commercial flop in France.
Soon after completing Aral Eric was commissioned to produce a soundtrack for the popular French comic book Thorgal. Eric co-composed half the songs, but arranged the entire album to give it a Celtic-Scandinavian ethereal feel. Eric also invited Catherine Lara back to work on several songs.

Between Deep Forest projects Michel and Eric continue to work on their own music productions. At the same time that Eric was producing Dao Dezi, Michel was working on Windows. The music is soft, mostly instrumental synthesizer compositions with an occassional sampled vocal and a light African theme, all atop a somtimes jazzy atmosphere. Dan Lacksman and Cooky Cue (engineers for the debut Deep Forest album) also co-produced and engineered Windows.

In Hiéroglyphes, Michel's second major solo album, he dives further into his interest in Jazz.. The album was very experimental, sometimes difficult for the average person to listen to due to the occassional drifting in and out of musical chaotic. Of all the songs, Issouena stands out as the one most resembling Deep Forest.

Wes Madiko grew up in Mouataba, Cameroon. He began learning music at an early age from his grandfather who was a spiritual leader. In the early 90's Wes followed his girlfriend to France. While in Lille he left one of his recordings in a music store, which would make it's way into the hands of Michel Sanchez. The two quickly struck up a friendship, leading to three and a half years of production trying to work out the right mesh of traditional and modern music. The result was Welenga, meaning univeral consciousness. This was Wes's second album, the first album was purly traditional and was only released in the United States in small number.

The album was a huge success having sold more albums than any other release from an African musician at the time. The extremely popular single Alane was Michel's most successful single since Sweet Lullaby. Wes continued to work with Michel and Deep Forest for several more years. He was part of the 96' Deep Forest world tour, and appeared on Comparsa and several compilations with Deep Forest.

Sinami was Wes's much anticipated follow-up to Welenga. Unlike Welenga which was arranged and produced by Michel Sanchez, Sinami was produced by Brian Rawling, and had no Deep Forest connection. As a result there was no exotic Deep Forest touch and the music turn out far more pop oriented. Sinami suffered commercially, leading to Wes's departure from Sony Music France. He moved to New York, and it is rumored that he has spent the last 5 years traveling the world looking for inspiration, slowly composing his next album.

Dan Lacksman who produced and engineered the debut Deep Forest album, wanted to get even more into the studio side of things, while Eric and Michel wanted to make Deep Forest more of a live thing. So Dan left Deep Forest to create his own project entitled Pangea. Included in the project were percussionist Frank Michiels, ambient musician Cooky Cue (also worked with Deep Forest on Savana Dance and First & Second Twilight), and Sacha Chaty, who Lacksman said brought a "pop sensibility" to the project.

Frank made several tiprs to Central Africa to record a library of sounds and voices, resulting in over 8 hours of samples. The album turned out to be very similar in style to the first Deep Forest album, but being a little more ambient.

Dan chose the name Pangea based on the idea that all humanity was once one people in Africa which some scientists believe was the center of the mega-continent Pangea.
The Amis aboriginal singer Difang (also known by his Chinese name Kuo Ying-nan) is best known for being sampled by Enigma in their song Return to Innocence. Difang didn't find out about the song until he heard it on television one day, leading to a lawsuit against Enigma.

When Dan heard about Difang he offered to produce an album for him. Circle of Life features Difang and his family singing their traditional songs, which were there mixed and arranged with light synthpads to give the music a more up-tempo sound that would be accessible to the Western ear. Included in the release was Elder's Dringing Song, the song sampled for Return to Innocence.

The album had much success in Asia and made Difang a national symbol in his home country, Taiwan. Perhaps tainted by his ordeal with Enigma, Difang was displeased with the use of synthesizers on his album. Difang followed with several, more traditional, albums. In 2002 Difang and his wife passed away at the age of 82.
In 1998 "Dan decided to fulfill a life-long dream: a musical experience in Egypt". E-gypt was produced by Dan and Sacha Chaty (involved in Pangea), including some arrangements by Christian Soete (a.k.a Cooky Cue, involved in Deep Forest and Pangea) and Alain Zaoui. Vocals were contributed by Saroussi and Fatima, and intrumentals by Osama Hantira, Salah El Din Mohamed, and Tunisian Nabil Abdmouleh Chari. The group would be known as Dan Lacksman's Alliance.

The music is a mix of Arabic songs, instruments, and the studio wizardry of Dan and his team. The mood of the album ranges from the very ambient Ghost From the Past to the dance beat driven Louxor in Vegas, which was also a single (featured on the Buddha Bar IV compilation).

The album was released in Belgium but in small quanity, and is nearly impossible to find.

From a Long Forgotten Future is the second album from the Dutch artist Aereda. Dan was brought aboard to produce, mix and engineer the album, making it a far more layered and enjoyable listening experience than the first release.

The music centers around the mystery of the hidden treasures of Rennes-le-Château. There is a theory that Jesus may not have died on the cross, but lived to marry Mary Magdalene and father children whose bloodline continues on today. Aereda, or Rhédae (in southern France) is the name of the city that Mary Magdalene and her children are believed to have fled, which is now Rennes-le-Château.
